Sibusiso Radebe (06 June 1982- 09 January 2020) was a South African former child star, actor and dancer. A prolific theatre actor; he appeared in numerous stage productions including Beauty and the Beast , Chicago, We Will Rock You, Marat Sade, Rosencrantz and Guildernstern are Dead, Hairspray, Operamania , Jesus Christ Superstar and Showboat.

However, it was his portrayal of the character of Vusi on the etv soap opera, Backstage, that earned him widespread fame. On Backstage he worked alongside renowned actors including Grace Mahlaba, Terence Bridgett, Baby Cele and Carlo Radebe.

Early Life

Sibusiso Radebe was born on 06 June 1982 in the township of Soweto in Johannesburg in the Gauteng province of South Africa. He was raised there and later completed his schooling at the National School of the Arts. He later attended AFDA.


Sibusiso Radebe started his career on the kiddies show, Kideo, and later worked on the teen magazine show, X-Attitude. He rose to prominence for his portrayal of Vusi on Backstage. He later acted on popular shows such as Mzansi, Gaz'lam, Stokvel, Home Affairs,, iNkaba, Soul City and City Ses'la.

Illness and Death

Sibusiso Radebe was diagnosed with cancer in late 2018, he began treatment at the start of 2019. In late 2019 he was believed to be in remission, "he even issued a statement about his struggle and his journey, and how he had conquered cancer. So we all thought he had made it and was in remission", his cousin, Nomagugu Simelane-Zulu, was quoted by Times LIVE.

On Wednesday 08 January 2020 Sibusiso Radebe was admitted to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital with a cold and on Thursday 09 January 2020 he passed away at that Johannesburg hospital.
