John Magufuli (29 October 1959- 17 March 2021) was a Tanzanian teacher, chemist and politician. He served as the fifth president of Tanzania from 5 November 2015 to 17 March 2021, and died while still holding the position. John Magufuli largely rejected extreme measures against Covid-19 and encouraged the people of Tanzania to pray, "that's where there is true healing. Corona is the devil and it cannot survive in the body of Jesus" - he was quoted by The Economist.
