Sello Maake KaNcube, born on 12th March 1960[2], is a respected South African actor and voice-over artist. He is known for his role as Lucas ‘Daniel’ Nyathi on the television show Scandal![4]. Maake KaNcube was born in Orlando, Soweto, South Africa, and later moved to Atteridgeville, Pretoria, where he grew up[3].
Throughout his illustrious career, Maake KaNcube has worked in theatre, film, and television not only in South Africa but also in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Europe[2]. He gained recognition for his role as ‘S’bu’ in the popular South African soap opera “Generations,” which aired from 1994 to 2014[6]. Maake KaNcube has also been a part of the Royal Shakespeare Company and performed in London’s West End[1].
In addition to his acting career, Maake KaNcube has lent his voice to various projects. For instance, he narrated a 2008 natural history documentary called “Africa’s Outsiders,” which focused on unusually pigmented (albino) wild animals and was aired by Animal Planet[8].
Maake KaNcube is regarded as one of the highest-paid and richest actors in South Africa and has also worked as a producer and director[9]. At the age of 61, he found love again with brand manager Solo Pearl Mbewe, who is 22 years younger than him[7].
