Robert Mugabe (21 February 1924 – 6 September 2019) was a Zimbabwean politician who served as the Prime Minister and later president of Zimbabwe from 1980 to 2017 for a combined total of 37 years. He was largely considered a dictator by the Free World and great sections of his own country despite receiving support and honour from organizations such as the African Union and Southern African Development Community as well as longstanding support from South Africa. Robert Mugabe's rule came to an abrupt end in a 2017 coup d'état which saw his vice president - and commander of the coup, Emmerson Mnangagwa, installed as the 3rd president of Zimbabwe.
