Nompilo Maphumulo (born 3 May 1982) is a South African actress, and businesswoman best known for her starring role on SABC 1's telenovela Uzalo as Nosipho Xulu alongside Dawn Thandeka King, Nelisa Mchunu, Nyalleng Thibedi, Thembinkosi Thwala and Wiseman Mncube.
Life and Career
Nompilo Maphumulo was born on May 3, 1982 in the township of KwaMashu near the city of Durban in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa. After matric, Nompilo couldn’t further her studies due to financial constraints. Instead, she had to find a job to help provide for her family. She therefore moved to Durban to work as a waitress at the International Convention Centre. Later she also worked at a call centre as a telesales agent. During this time, her desire to join the world of acting grew stronger. After years of ignoring her dream, she quit her job and returned to KwaMashu. She went back to the KwaMashu Community Advancement Projects (KCAP) to learn about the performing arts and increase her knowledge on acting. She excelled in her drama and theatre classes.
Nompilo she started her acting with theatre plays such as Sugar Daddies, The Weeping Candle, Madame President Musical and The Legend will never die. In 2014 she was cast as Nozie in a South African feature film Between Friends: Ithala, alongside Thapelo Mokoena, Siyabonga Radebe, Amanda Du-Pont, Dumisani Mbebe, Mandisa Nduna and Lihle dhlomo.
In 2015 she was cast as Nosipho on the SABC1 telenovela Uzalo, alongside Nay Maps Maphalala, Mpumelelo Bhulose, Dawn Thandeka King, Gugu Gumede, Ntokozo Dlamini, Khaya Dladla, Nokuthula Mabika and Leleti Khumalo.
Nompilo is a mother of two children, a boy and a girl by the name of Neliswa and Nosfundo.
