Mpumelelo Bhulose (born 02 February 1972) is a South African actor and businessman. He arguably best known for his much heralded portrayal of the character of Gxabhashe on the SABC 1 telenovela Uzalo. Mpumelelo Bhulose has gone on to play roles of Xolani on Mzansi Magic's Greed & Desire and Zimele "Ngcolosi" Bhengu on e.tv's Imbewu: The Seed.
Early on in his career he portrayed the characters of Martin on the SABC 1 soap opera Generations and Sipho Sithole on Tshisa as well as appearing on the Joe Mafela, Connie Chiume and Sindi Dlathu led Khululeka. Mpumelelo Bhulose went on a prolonged hiatus before resurfacing on Uzalo.
Departure from Uzalo
Mpumelelo Bhulose left Uzalo as it was reaching the height of its popularity and closing in Generations, a long standing number prime time show, in the ratings. Furthermore; his character Gxabhashe was pivotal to the story and had gained a cult following in South African popular culture.
The general narrative has always been that he was fired, however, more reputable publications have alluded to a resignation amid constant clashes with co-stars and producers. Marang Setshwaelo, Uzalo publicist was quoted saying at the time, "In the interest of maintaining the integrity of the story line, Uzalo doesn't reveal - in advance - the movement of cast members."
In June 2016 Mpumelelo Bhulose speaking to Drum magazine, "When I give my all in a production. I must be appreciated. I didn’t leave Uzalo on good terms. If we had been‚ we would still be working together. But when people keep saying wrong things about you‚ that should tell you who has the problem."
Departure from Imbewu: The Seed
Mpumelelo Bhulose was fired from the e.tv drama series Imbewu: The Seed, according to Isolezwe for not showing up to set for shoots for three weeks without any explanation. "The absence of Bhulose’s character, Ngcolosi ‘Zimele’ Bhengu was written into the storyline some time ago, however, the executive producers have since decided to end their relationship with Mr. Bhulose," Michael Pocock for e.tv confirmed.
Leleti Khumalo Controversy
Mpumelelo Bhulose left e.tv's amid unfavourable reports of unprofessionalism, however, later reports claimed that he had a heated argument with famed actress, Imbewu: The Seed co-star (at the time) and former Uzalo co-star Leleti Khumalo. Media reports later alleged that Leleti Khumalo husband's friends began stalking Mpumelelo Bhulose. This led to which lead to tMpumelelo Bhulose opening a case of intimidation against Leleti Khumalo's husband.
Mpumelelo Bhulose was accused of impregnating a 24 year-old Durban woman named Gugu Mlotshwa, breaking up with her then instructing her to get an abortion, Move! magazine reported in late 2015. According to Channel24, Marang Setshwaelo, speaking on behalf of Mpumelelo Bhulose was quoted saying, "Mr Bhulose does not comment on issues concerning his personal life in the media".
