Isidingo (formerly known as Isidingo: The Need) is a South African soap opera originally created by Gray Hofmeyr and set in Horizon Deep, a South African mining town, where the structure of the mining community from the lowliest workers to executive management reflects South African society as it is in the new millennium. The program was hailed as a breakthrough and held up as the go-to example when it came to "one-nation viewing". Very quickly Isidingo became a firm favourite with viewers across the spectrum.
The characters and storylines deal with the issues which face ordinary South Africans in their daily lives – their loves, fears, problems, heartaches and triumphs. Isidingo premiered on SABC 3 on Tuesday 7 July 1998, at 18h30. It currently airs on SABC 3 Mondays to Fridays at 19h00.
