Big NUZ is a South African Kwaito music group from Umlazi township in the south of the city of Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. Signed to Gallo Record Company and later Kalawa Jazmee Records, the trio moved to Johannesburg to pursue a career in music to little success. It was when they returned to Durban and signed with Afrotainment that their fortunes changed. Big NUZ would see out the final years of the first decade as of the 21st century as the most sought after performers in South Africa.

Recording Years

Big NUZ recorded and released their debut album, Zozo, in 2006 under the Gallo Record Company. The album was released to lukewarm success. In 2008 Big NUZ released their second studio album, the first as a joint release between Afrotainment and Kalawa Jazmee Records, 2nd Round Knockout. The album marked a turning point for the group that had largely languished in obscurity; it featured acclaimed hits such as Ubala and Ugesi among others.

In years that followed Big NUZ dominated the music scene signed exclusively under Afrotainment with DJ Tira, the label owner, featuring prominently in all their work. In 2009 they released Undisputed, Pound For Pound and Made In Africa; the last album to be released with the late member, R Mashesha.

On 07 August 2015 Big NUZ released their fifth studio album, For the Fans, following the death of their member, R Mashesha. In June 2015 they collaborated with the Jaziel Brothers on a single, Do You Still Remember. In May 2016 they collaborated with the Jaziel Brothers in a single, He Reins featuring Uzalo choir and in 2017 they released Sibongile.
