Sihle Ndaba (born 13 June 1989) is a South African actress who rose to fame after starring on the SABC 1 hit telenovela, Uzalo where she portrayed the character of Smangele Maphumulo. In 2012 she took part in the Idols South Africa as a contestant; it was the same season contested by the later Dumi Masilela who later gained popularity for his portrayal of Sfiso Ngema on e.tv's Rhthym City and eventual winner Khaya Mthethwa.
Early Life and Career
Sihle Ndaba was born Siphesihle Ndaba on born 13 June 1989 in Ermelo in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa. She studied Musical Theatre at the Tshwane University of Technology from 2007 to 2009. Shortly after obtaining her diploma Sihle Ndaba toured Singapore as part of the cast of the hit Broadway musical, The Lion King. In 2012 she contested the 8th season of Idols South Africa and placed in the top 18. Later that year she guest starred on the first season of Room 9 where she played Qiniso Kaleni. She also guest starred as Pru on Mzansi Magic's iNkaba.
Uzalo and The Herd: 2015- to date
Sihle Ndaba gained wide recognition in 2015 when she was cast on SABC 1's telenovela, Uzalo. Her potrayal of Smangele Maphumulo was well received by the audiences and a Sabela Award for Best Supporting Actress at the Durban International Film Festival. In December 2017 her character's story line on Uzalo was discontinued. Controversially so as she was not informed before hand.
Speaking to Metro FM's Pearl Modiadie and Amon Mokoena, Sihle Ndaba was quoted saying, "I missed the hype because the press release was (sent out) two days before and I was in the air. I knew it was coming so it wasn't a surprise. It wasn't like I found out in the papers that I was no longer going to be part of the show. When they told me, I was like: 'Ahhh. I am going to miss this character. I am going to miss telling Smangele's story because it was very close to me. I hope and believe that it has done what it was meant to do. I am grateful for the opportunity and the platform the show provided for me to bond with the viewers and my fans. Whilst this has not been an easy decision for me as an artist, it is time for me to move on and grow professionally in other areas."
