Eric Macheru (born 25 February 1986) is a South African actor most famous for acting as Leeto Maputla the son of Meikie Maputla (Harriet Manamela)and John Maputla (Africa Tsoai) and the older brother of Thabo Maputla (Cornet Mamabolo) in the soap, Skeem Saam

Early Life

Eric was born on February 25, 1986, Botlokwa, Polokwane in the Limpopo province of South Africa. He attended Kuschke agricultural high school. At school he was very loud and was involved in all school activities including soccer and debates. Eric has always known what he wants in life - when he was little he knew he would be a professional soccer player and a filmmaker. He grew up with his church going family; a father who loves sport, two brothers and his mother. When Eric finished school he played soccer and then studied film at AFDA.


He was a professional soccer player whose career ended after he got an injury that could not heal and he opted out. The injury could not heal and he had to stop playing. He won the SABC1 reality competition Sokka Kings in 2005 and was the given the opportunity to train for a week overseas with the English Premiership club Tottenham Hotspur, a one-year contract with Highlands Cape Town and a sports management contract. He later joined Ajax Cape Town but had to cut his career short after a injury.


In 2011 Eric was cast as Leeto Maputla on the SABC1 soap opera Skeem Saam, who always gets into trouble, and gets his family to bail him out. In 2012 he joined the cast of the Mzansi Magic telenovela iNkaba in the role of Rick, a top model on Fumi’s level described as "the Tyson Beckford of iNkaba world". Eric has also presented on Vuzu’s celebrity lifestyle show, V Entertainment. In 2014 was cast on a South African television drama series, Mfolozi Street as Msindo.
